Maccabi Haifa signed former Washington State University Cougar Derrick Low to a oneyear contract, the team announced Tuesday.

“I have been following Derrick for a few years now and I am pleased he’ll be joining Maccabi Haifa,” said Haifa coach Elad Hasin. “He will be a valuable asset to our team because of his wisdom and leadership skills that he’ll bring to our team this season.”

The 24-year-old point guard played last season for BC Siauliai in Lithuania’s top division, averaging 13.1 points (47.6- percent from beyond the arc), 3.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.7 steals in 28 games.

Low was named “All- Lithuanian LKL Import Player of the Year” by Eurobasket.com.

In six Eurocup games last year, he averaged 18.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and one steal per game. Low played against Hapoel Jerusalem twice, scoring 20 points in one game and 22 in the other.

In the Baltic League last season, he averaged 15 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.5 steals in 22 games.

Low has also played professionally for French club Rouen and Australian club Sydney Spirit.

Low was a four-year starter at WSU. As a senior in 2007- 08, he started all 35 games, averaging 14.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals.
