Nine-time European champion Real Madrid will play a mixed team of Israelis and Palestinians on June 19 at Bloomfield Stadium as part of the Peres Center for Peace's 10th anniversary celebrations. The Peres Center has held similar matches twice in the past with a mixed Israeli-Palestinian team playing Barcelona at the Camp Nou in 2005 and an Andalusia all-star side in Seville last year. Real is going through a poor season by its standards, losing on away goals to Bayern Munich in the round of 16 of the Champions League and failing at the same stage in the Copa del Rey. Madrid is, however, still fighting for the Spanish league title, trailing Barcelona by just two points with five matches remaining in the season. Despite its troubles on the field, Real still boasts one of the most impressive squads world soccer has to offer. David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Raul are just three of many players which Israeli fans will be hoping to see first hand at Bloomfield. The news of Real's visit will please many local fans who were disappointed when Beckham missed England's Euro 2008 Qualifying match against Israel in Ramat Gan in March. Beckham is set to leave Madrid for the Los Angeles Galaxy this summer, but much to the fans' joy is still expected to play in Israel for the first time ever in five-and-a-half weeks.
