Despite being owned by Jewish businessmen and being known for its large Jewish fan base, Tottenham has advised its supporters travelling to Wednesday’s Champions League match against Inter Milan to not take Star of David flags into the San Siro Stadium.

Both UEFA and the Italian authorities have claimed that they have no problem with the fans of the North London club waving such flags, but Tottenham urged its supporters not to do so in the travel advice posted on its official website.

“Flags and banners with appropriate wording would be welcome at the Stadium. It is common policy and normal ground rules at football stadiums in the UK and elsewhere in Europe that flags of an overtly religious/ political nature will not be permitted, including flags featuring the Star of David.

“Police Authorities have advised that those flags will not be allowed access and may be confiscated. Please respect this request,” the Spurs website read.
