Andy Ram, Dudi Sela and Shahar Pe'er all made it through to the last 16 of their respective doubles draws at the US Open on Friday, ensuring Israel will be well represented in the second week of the year's final Grand Slam. Ram and Max Mirnyi, seeded No. 5 in New York, defeated Dusan Vernic and Mischa Zverev 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 and advanced to the third round, where they will face the winner of the match between Italians Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi and No. 10 seeds Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinak. Sela and Yen-Hsun Lu didn't even have to hit a ball to progress, after Spaniards Marcel Granollers and Tommy Roberdo retired due to injury. Next up for the Israeli/Taiwanese duo is the winners of the match between No. 3 seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles and Americans Jesse Levine and Ryan Sweeting. Pe'er and Gisela Dulko defeated No. 14 seeds Sania Mirza and Francesca Schiavone 6-2, 1-6, 7-5, and in the third round will face the tough challenge of No. 3 seeds Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs. Later Saturday, Pe'er faced world No. 6 Svetlana Kuznetsova in the third round of the singles tournament. Pe'er lost just six total games in the first two rounds in Flushing Meadows, defeating Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2, 6-0 in the second round on Thursday.
