Succot at the Israel Museum

The Israel Museum, in collaboration with Beit Avi Chai,is offering a number of fun and innovative activities aimed at the entire family. The Museum is showcasing the creative model succas from the celebrated Succot Speak contest. Children who are inspired can take part in the workshops in the Youth Wing: artists’ workshops that allow kids to try their hand at building a model succa or recycling workshops where they can prepare miniature succas using recycled materials.

Based on the Museum’s current exhibition A World Apart Next Door, there will be Hasidic tales for kids, a family tour on the themes of Succot and Hasidism, as well as a wandering Klezmer band playing vibrant, atmospheric music. . Entry to the Museum is free for kids during HolHamoed, and is free for all ages on Sunday October 7. (workshops are an additional fee).

The whole family can enjoy a morning of being on the bike as well as other challenging sports– and it’s all for a good cause too. The event precedes the 13th annual Wheels of Love International Bike Ride to raise money for the children of Alyn Hospital.

Moshav Modiin Country Fair

Moshav Me’or Modiin, known as the Carlebach Moshav after the late Rabbi ShlomoCarlebach, is just over a half hour drive from Jerusalem but is far removed with its slow-paced rural feel. The annual country fair is very popular with Americans and the Anglo crowd. It offers “alternative” activities for the entire family – arts and crafts, healthy food stalls, hand-made clothing and accessories, healthy juices and raw live snacks, alternative healing, and an excellent line-up of live music.

Address: Moshav Me’or Modiin (just past Modiin on Highway 443 to Tel Aviv):
Phone: 052-324-0789
When: October 3,11a.m. – 10p.m.

Abu Gosh Vocal Music Festival

Vocal music fans should not miss out on the bi-annual Abu Gosh Vocal Music Festival this Succot. The concerts are performed in striking locations including the Benedectine Monastery of Abu Gosh in the heart of the village and the Kiryat Ye’arim Church at the top of the hill overlooking the village. Tickets are available during the festival at the box office in the churches (cash only).

Address: Abu Gosh
Phone: 054-640-7144 (info during the festival only) or *6226 (tickets)
When: October 5 to October 8,11:30a.m. – 6:30p.m.

Derech Beit Lechem Festival

The Baka Community and Jerusalem Municipality is organizing a colorful and lovely evening on the quaint Beit Lechem Street in trendy Baka. Browse the boutiques, dine in a succa at one of the many cafes lining the street, enjoy music, take part in a Hasidic farbrengen and soak up the village-like atmosphere. There are activities on offer for all ages.

Address: Beit Lechem Road, Baka
Phone: (02) 673-4237
When: October 3,5p.m. – 11p.m.
