Abraham Hostel in central Jerusalem, which opened just two years ago, was voted number eight in the world in the “large hostel” category at the recent 11th Hoscars awards in Dublin. Winners were decided by users of the popular hostel booking website Hostelworld.com, making the awards representative of real travelers' experiences and preferences.

The hostel was chosen over hundreds of other hostels around the world with 101-250 beds, including many famous hostels. The awards take into account everything from atmosphere to cleanliness to security to staff helpfulness.

Florentine Backpackers Hostel in the bohemian neighborhood of Tel Aviv was ranked number nine in the world among hostels with up to 50 beds.

The website Hostelworld.com, WRI Group, offers reservations and accommodation packages to tens of thousands of hostels in about 180 countries worldwide. With such a selection, two top ten awards in their respective categories is clearly significant and a real success for the Israeli tourism industry.

Abraham’s Hostel in the center of Jerusalem offers dorms or private rooms, a free walking tour of the Old City, helpful travel information, free breakfast, wireless internet and a vibrant atmosphere at affordable rates. Hostel staff members are known to be passionate about Jerusalem and take pleasure in offering advice. The hostel serves as a social hub with its onsite bar and large lounge. In addition, the hostel schedules live music, tours (such as its Abraham Hiking Club) and other events.

According to Yaron Burgin, one of the founders of Abraham Hostels, the hostel industry “has seen a resurgence in recent years, especially among young people, who are looking for an affordable alternative to the traditional hotel.

Many feedback scores from other hostels in Israel were incredibly positive despite not making the final listings, a further reflection of the burgeoning hostel industry in Israel. By 2020 it is estimated that 25% of all global overnight stays will be made in hostels, and Israel clearly has the high quality facilities available.

There are a host of authentic and unique hostels in Jerusalem for travelers on a budget. Some of the most popular hostels in Jerusalem are located in the center of the city as well in the Old City – Heritage House Jerusalem Hostel, Lutheran Hostel, Austrian Hospice, Casa Nova, Christ Church, The Sephardic house and more. There are also great accommodation options in quieter, more suburban areas of Jerusalem such as Yitzhak Rabin Youth Hostel and Guest House.
