While Sunday morning began a day full of traffic delays, fallen trees, power outages, among other inconveniences for Israelis, the winter season's first snow was welcomed somewhat differently by Mother Nature and Israel's non-human residents.

First winter rain begins falling

The storm began Friday afternoon as rain began falling on different parts of Israel on Friday afternoon, at the start of what was to be a stormy weekend.

Tel Aviv received its first raindrops early in the afternoon, along with Haifa, Netanya, Ra'anana and Kfar Saba.


By Sunday, over the Hermon of snow was reported on the slopes of Mount Hermon in the Golan. The entire ski area was covered in white powder, according to an Army Radio report. 

Snow was also expected to reach the peaks of mountains in the upper Galilee later on Sunday.
