Chris Gunness was invited on air to discuss the humanitarian plight of Palestinians in Gaza, the deaths of children during offensive.

The spokesperson for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency broke down in tears during an appearance on the Al Jazeera television network on Wednesday.

Chris Gunness was invited onto the pan-Arab satellite network to discuss the humanitarian plight of Palestinians in Gaza as well as the deaths of children during the three-week offensive.

Toward the end of the interview, Gunness loses his composure when discussing the toll that the fighting has taken on UNRWA employees as well as innocent civilians in Gaza.

UNRWA has been the subject of controversy during the conflict after it was discovered that rocket caches were stored in the premises of one of its schools in the Gaza Strip.

An Israeli shell hit an UNRWA school in the Jabaliya camp on Wednesday, killing at least 19 people and wounding scores of others, Palestinian officials said.

Israel said it is probing the incident. IDF spokesman Lt.-Col. Peter Lerner said that “terrorists were shooting from the area of that location” at the time the school was hit.
