Palestinian head of intelligence Taufik Tirawi said Monday that the alleged plan to assassinate Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, exposed by Israel Sunday, was "no more than talking" and an exchange of ideas between two fugitives not affiliated with any of the terror organizations, Israel Radio reported.
According to Tirawi, the two did not take any steps towards realizing their plan.
In an interview with Al Kuds, published in east Jerusalem, Tirawi blamed Israeli officials of blowing the case out of proportion in an attempt to hide Israel's actions and plans regarding the Palestinians and the peace process.
A senior in Palestinian Military Intelligence said that the Palestinians rearrested several days ago were not interrogated regarding the Olmert assassination plan at all. They were arrested, he said, for internal reasons, and following any reports of an assassination plot.
