Members of the Jewish Agency's Board of Trustees, along with the head of the Jewish Agency delegation in North America, met with senior officials of the North American Red Cross in Washington to discuss the issue of captive IDF soldier Gilad Schalit on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the Red Cross officials were presented with hundreds of postcards written to Schalit by US citizens, including children, mainly from Jewish communities.
In addition to the postcards, the Jewish Agency representatives handed the Red Cross officials thousands of signatures from an online petition calling upon the organization to continue exerting pressure on the Hamas government in Gaza to allow Red Cross representatives to visit the kidnapped soldier.
The petition demands that the Red Cross work immediately to receive information about Schalit and grant him all the basic rights owed to him according to the Geneva Convention.
