Clarissa Brahms, a 64-year-old Christian pilgrim and mother of three from Barbados who always dreamed of visiting Israel's holy places, suddenly had a stroke and went into brain death two weeks ago.
She was taken by helicopter from the Kinneret to Haifa's Rambam Medical Center. Her son, Anderson Harding, arrived from Barbados to see her and gave permission without hesitation to disconnect her from the respirator and donate her organs, saying that she had always helped the needy and would have wanted to do so.
Her organs were donated to six Israelis and saved their lives.
Meanwhile, organs of Leah Nahmani, a 59-year-old nurse who choked on bread and suffered brain death, were donated at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.
Organs from a 52-year-old man were also donated. A liver and kidney were transplanted at Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem; a liver and two kidneys at Sourasky; a lung, kidney and liver at the Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva, and a kidney at Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba.
