On Monday 9th November KKL-JNF Israel will mark International Cleanup Day
Over 150,000 people are expected to participate in this year's cleanup events
KKL-JNF invites the public to take an active part in the cleanup campaigns. KKL-JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzler: "This year we see an increased public awareness about the importance of environmental cleanliness, thanks to increased activity on the part of KKL-JNF and the Green organizations. Together we shall set forth for a cleaner, Greener world, which will also be a better world for both humans and the environment."
On Monday, 9th November, for the ninth consecutive year, KKL-JNF will observe International Cleanup Day in Israel. Over 150,000 people are expected to participate, including schoolchildren, soldiers, students, youth movements, local residents and the staff of various companies, in various cleanup campaigns in forests, parks and open spaces, in dozens of municipalities throughout Israel. This year, as part of their educational activities, schoolchildren will separate refuse into different categories - plastic, paper, cardboard, and items with a returnable deposit. In addition, schools will engage in educational environmental activities, with the help of KKL-JNF Education and Youth Division's Mobile educational van.
Many of the Cleanup Day activities are enabled through the support of JNF Australia and JNF America. This year JNF America's contribution focused on promoting environmental planning in peripheral areas with special activities for students and soldiers in Yeruham. KKL-JNF Australia's contribution this year stresses cooperation with local authorities and joint Jewish-Arab activities.
The Clean Up the World organization was founded in Australia in 1993. It has been adopted by the UN and is today the largest environmental conservation organization in the world. KKL-JNF joined Clean Up the World in 2001 and has since held eight major cleanup campaigns throughout the country.

In Central Israel:
In Ramat HaSharon, Emmanuel, Beit Arye, Mevasseret Zion, Jerusalem, Modiin, Kiryat Ono, Kedumim, Hod HaSharon, Rishon LeTzion, Beit El, Beit Dagan, Oranit, Ariel, Netanya, Raanana, Bnei Ayish, Maaleh Iron, Yavneh, Tel Aviv, Rosh HaAyin, Ben Shemen, Bat Hefer, Petah Tikva, Holon, Hertzliya and Ramla.
In Be'er Tuvia: Main ceremony on Hill 69, with the participation of KKL-JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzler, both Nitzan schools (from the Gush Katif evacuee community) and Be'er Tuvia's Regavim School. 120 schoolchildren will take part in the Adopt-a-Site campaign that will be launched on Cleanup Day. Students participating in this project will adopt Hill 69; later, with KKL-JNF's help, an annual educational plan will be drawn up and action will be taken to maintain and develop the site. The Adopt-a-Site project is designed to encourage schoolchildren to help maintain and conserve a variety of sites near their homes, by working together with KKL-JNF and other members of the community on a permanent basis.
In Rishon LeTzion: The Cleanup Day ceremony will take place in California Wood in the town's Ben Gurion Avenue, with the participation of Mayor Dov Tzur and KKL-JNF representatives. After the ceremony pupils from three local schools will clean up the woodland.
In Ariel: The Cleanup Day ceremony will be held at the Aliza Begin School with the participation of Mayor Ron Nahman and KKL-JNF Co-Chairman Avraham Duvdevani. The mobile educational van will be on hand to provide explanations about KKL-JNF and the environment.
In Northern Israel:
In Kiryat Motzkin, Mevo'ot Hermon, Ramat Yishai, Maaleh Iron, Nahariya, Yokneam, Kfar Vradim and Jedeida-Makar near Acco.
Jezreel Valley Regional Council: Some 1,500 pupils from 18 schools and junior high schools will take part in a variety of activities on Cleanup Day. These activities are enabled through KKL-JNF Australia. Jewish and Arab schoolchildren from Kfar Yehoshua and Manshiyya Zbeda will participate in a joint activity entitled Co-existence with the Environment.
Nazareth - Cleaning up the Jesus Trail: Schoolchildren from Mashhad, Kafr Kana and Nazareth, in conjunction with Fawzi Azar Inn and volunteers from abroad will clean up the Jesus Trail, a 65-kilometer-long hiking trail from Nazareth to Kfar Nahum. KKL-JNF teams will help to clear the "serious" refuse with heavy equipment.
In Southern Israel:
In Meitar, Arad, Ramat Nadav, Dimona, Netivot, Ofakim, Kiryat Gat, Beersheba, Abu Basma, Hura, Shafir, Kiryat Malachi, Ashdod, Be'er Tuvia, Sderot and Bnei Shimon Regional Council.
Yeruham: Schoolchildren and soldiers from nearby IDF bases will take part in activities throughout the region and at beauty spots adjacent to the town: Yeruham Crater (HaMahtesh HaGadol) Yeruham Park and Yeruham Lake. Throughout the day local pupils of all ages, from kindergarten to high school, will follow a special program of study devoted to ecological and environmental issues. Kindergarten children will also take part in a play about recycling entitled The Dustbin Revolution and in town there will be a public lecture for adults about global warming and climate change.
