UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Friday that the UN would not withdraw its forces and workers from Afghanistan, despite recent rumors of a pullout following a terror attack against a UN guest house in Kabul in which left five staff members dead and nine others injured.
Following the attack, the world body had announced that it would be relocating a percentage of its staff in order to address security concerns at the facility. However, the UN secretary-general stressed that work in the country would continue.
"We will not, cannot and must not be deterred," Ban was quoted by the UN news agency as saying.
During his visit to Afghanistan, Ban also met with recently elected Afghan President Hamid Karzai and a former presidential candidate, urging them to form a reform-oriented government.
