A government health official says at least 50 civilians have been killed in an artillery attack on a hospital in northern Sri Lanka.
Dr. Thurairaja Varatharajah said the attack took place Wednesday afternoon when two shells slammed into the facility in the war zone. Varatharajah is the top government health official in the conflict zone.
The government has denied reports that it is shelling the area.
