Canwest Global Communications Corporation, operating under the corporate brand Canwest, is one of Canada's largest international media companies . The company's head office is situated in Winnipeg, Manitoba at Canwest Place. The company entered creditor bankruptcy protection in late 2009. Shaw Communications has reached a deal with the main creditors of Canwest's broadcasting division to acquire control of that part of the company, which has received court approval (but not yet CRTC approval); however, a rival group including former CEO Leonard Asper, as well as Goldman Sachs, with which Canwest co-owns several specialty channels, are reportedly working to block the bid in favour of their own proposal. A separate sale process for the company's newspaper arm is ongoing as of March 2010.
