Dining: New Year Treats

There are some interesting dessert concoctions to be tried that are a modern update on the usual holiday sweets.

Traditionally, apples and honey are served during the Rosh Hashana meal in order to symbolize the hopes for a sweet new year. However, all of the preparation, the cooking and cleaning, can make it feel more like you are beginning a year of indentured servitude. This year, save the suffering for Yom Kippur, and take the stress out of your New Year celebration, by allowing someone else to do all of the prep work for you. The restaurants of Tel Aviv have all of the fixings of a sweet and easy New Year prepared for you. Asif's Chef Anav Berman, has built take-away menus for all of your holiday needs this year. For starters, Asif offers everything from a chopped liver platter to chicken soup with kreplach. You can choose from an array of salads both traditional and a bit more avant-garde. For main course, dishes include a spinach lasagna that serves six, Osso buco or chicken in wine, among many others. To finish off, try the tart tatin cake, the honey cookies, or the half-liter of chocolate mousse. For all of your fish needs, call up the classic seafood restaurant, Ha Shaked. They will be offering smoked and salty fish, and the favorite unidentifiable Jewish fish, the gefilte.
