The Israel Broadcasting Authority will establish a production center for drama programs for Channel 1, the authority said in a press release on Thursday afternoon. The move was initiated by Moti Shklar, general manager of the Israel Broadcasting Authority, who believes that Israeli drama needs to be the central focus of the public channel's program schedule. "Drama programs can introduce us to the exciting and fascinating - if at times painful and crisis-laden - Israeli experience, of [being part of] as rich and diverse a society as the Israeli society," said Shklar. After the initial stage of development, in which the creators suggest a range of ideas for programs, the authority will choose which of these ideas will become part of Channel 1's program lineup.
