The 2008 Kfar Shmaryahu Chamber Music Festival, directed by Israeli conductor/pianist Asher Fisch and performed by local artists - mainly at private houses of the Tel Aviv suburb - begins today and runs through May 31. The somewhat eclectic program features pieces from J.S. Bach to Piazzola to Steve Reich to Israelis Menachem Wiesenberg and Shlomo Gronich. The three-day festival winds down with the Israeli Camerata evening when Fisch will play Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 14 and conduct. Fisch's wife, mezzo soprano Linda Pavelka, will solo in pieces by Haydn and Respighi.
