For fans of street culture, the place to be come April 28 is downtown Tel Aviv. The annual Urban MotoMusic happening - which has already captured attention in Berlin, Barcelona, London, and Madrid -- is set to roll between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. along Dizengoff Street.
The event is divided into sub-categories.
The biggest draw is Breakdance Square which will feature 2006's top local breakdance acts. The national breakdance competition for individuals and groups will be performed live on April 28. B-Boy Junior, France's breakdance champion, will be on hand and show off his moves for fans of the dance genre. He'll also judge the national competition.
Also a top pull at the event is the Moto Music arena, which will feature a battle of young bands. Sha'anan Street (of Hadag Nachash) will be in the house, as will rapper Mook E who will perform after the competition.
The StreetArt spot will likely be a big draw too as graffiti devotees, underground comic artists, and stair colorists flaunt their talents.
Other festival happenings include Moto Bar (place to chill out and enjoy Street Style music); FashionHood quarter (featuring what's hot in street-wear trends as young designers show off their hip-hop garb and other must-have accessories); and Street Soundz (huge street party with top deejays spinning behind the decks).
An annual favorite at Urban MotoMusic is the Skateboard Hill area where skateboarders, bikers, and roller-bladers take to the ramps to perform 'Xtreme' tricks.
And finally, the Hip Hop & MixRoad area includes hip hop, funk, freestyle, rap, and MCs performing what they do best. Young musicians will face off with professional ones. Expect to see Segol 59, Kashi, Soliko, and Rebel Sun, among others.
Urban MotoMusic takes place April 28 along Dizengoff Street between Dizengoff Center and Dizengoff Square. Entry to all events is free of charge.
