On Monday night, over 30,000 Channel 1 viewers paid NIS 4 to text message their vote for Israel's best song of the past 60 years. Several thousand more sent in their choice via Internet. Out of 12 finale song choices, Naomi Shemer's classic "Jerusalem of Gold" won the title. A moment of embarrassment was registered when host Guy Zu-artz, who announced the winning song, spoke of Shemer in the present tense, clearly unaware that she had long since passed away. "Jerusalem of Gold" beat "You Promised a Dove" (otherwise known as "Winter of '73") by a close margin of only one point. Winners in other categories included the late Shoshana Damari as most beloved female singer of the past 60 years, Arik Einstein as best male singer, and Kaveret as best band.
