4.8 magnitude quake shakes Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 struck a town in western Turkey Thursday, but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The Istanbul-based Kandilli seismology center says the quake occurred at 5:23 a.m. (0223 GMT) Thursday, in the town of Balya, in Balikesir province.
