Ayelet Shaked on Monday appointed seven new sharia court judges in her capacity as Justice Minister, which she said was the largest number of new sharia judges ever to be selected at once.

Shaked said that it was the first time that any new sharia court judges had been appointed since 2009.

The justice minister added that it was also the first time since 1994 that the sharia regional courts had grown significantly, with three new appointees, on top of the already existing eight sharia regional court judges.
