"It is a unilateral move by the Israeli government in cooperation with the US, set in motion in an effort to move the peace process with the Palestinians forward," said Defense Minister Ehud Barak in a closed session on Thursday, in response to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's recent offer to freeze West Bank settlement construction. Later on Thursday, Barak instructed the IDF to decree a ten-month moratorium on Jewish construction in the West Bank, as outlined in the prime minister's announcement.
