An Israeli died after he was wounded in a shooting incident near Israel's border with Egypt on Tuesday afternoon.

The man who had been carrying out maintenance work for the Defense Ministry was airlifted from the scene, but was pronounced as dead upon arrival to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.

The source of the gunfire was not initially clear.
