DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A key suspect in the killing of a Hamas operative in Dubai was arrested in a Western country two months ago, according to Dubai's police chief Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim.

Tamim told the Abu Dhabi government-owned daily The National that the suspect played a key role in the January 19 killing of Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh.

However he said that the country that made the arrest asked that details of it not be made public.

It was unclear whether the suspect was still being held.
