Erdogan will take 'necessary steps' after border shooting

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday described a shooting attack from Syria into Turkey a day earlier as a clear border violation and said his government would take "necessary steps" under international law, speaking to reporters in Beijing.

"We will make assessments in response to this border violation," Erdogan said. "[Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davotoglu] and I are conducting diplomacy with regional countries and will soon take the necessary steps," Turkey's state news agency quoted him as saying.

At the same time, Ankara will not stop accepting refugees, which he described as "the right thing."

Speaking as a deadline approached to withdraw troops from cities as part of a UN-brokered ceasefire plan, the Turkish prime minister said his government has unsuccessfully tried to talk to Syrian officials about their concerns. He added that "it is evident that there is great cruelty in Syria," stressing that justice will prevail.
