Meretz MK Esawi Frej is set to replace Zehava Galon on the highly sensitive Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, his office announced on Sunday.

Frej, who is number three on the liberal party's list, is only the second Muslim to serve on the committee, which deals with some of the most sensitive issues dealing with national security and privy to intelligence briefings of the highest order.

Galon recently quit the Knesset to focus on her responsibility as the chairwoman of the party.
