Firefighters on Friday strove to combat flames that threatened to consume some of Israel's wildest and most beautiful forests, among them Gamla and Birya.

Eventually the firefighters managed to overcome the flames on Friday evening.

Suspecting that Arab arsonists had started the fires, police were investigating the incidents.
