First established Kibbutz celebrates 100th anniversary

The Kibbutz movement prepared to celebrate Israel's first established Kibbutz on Monday, celebrating its 100th anniversary.

Kibbutz Degania, near the southwestern tip on the Kinneret, was to hold a festive ceremony in the presence of residents past and present as well as public figures including President Shimon Peres.

The Yesha Council of Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria sent the Kibbutz Movement the following birthday message: "We congratulate you on your holiday for your decisive part in Zionist activity in settling throughout the Land of Israel for these past 100 years.
