Israel calls for sanctions against Iran in light of its continued defiance of the UN Security Council and the international community on the nuclear issue, according to a Foreign Ministry statement released Friday.

“The international community and its institutions must implement effective sanctions against Iran as soon as possible,” the statement read. Such sanctions, it said, would illustrate to Teheran “the heavy price it will pay should it continue to develop its nuclear program.”
