Fuel contamination at B-G airport caused by dirty filters

Jet fuel was contaminated at Ben Gurion airport in May because the electronic filters used to clean the fuel had not been changed for a decade, the commission created to investigate the incident reported on Sunday.
According to the report, the filters became so clogged that they collapsed as the fuel passed through.
The National Infrastructures Ministry created a commission to investigate the incident when contaminated jet fuel caused all flights leaving Ben Gurion airport to be canceled the evening of May 5.
The commission also said that a report on the dirty filters was written as early as February, but had not been passed along to the proper authorities.
