KABUL - Gunfire was heard in the center of Kabul on Saturday, a Reuters witness said, and an Afghan television station reported that insurgents had attacked a downtown police station.

Mohammad Zahir, head of crime investigation for Kabul police, told Tolo TV that two suicide bombers blew themselves up outside a police station in the city's police district one, and a third insurgent was still fighting.

The interior ministry, which is responsible for police in Afghanistan, could not immediately be reached for comment.
