There will be disruptions in service at Clalit Health Services hospitals and clinics around the country on Sunday, as some 15,000 workers - half of the whole staff - will apply sanctions in protest against the "25 percent" erosion in their wages in recent years. They are the maintenance and administrative staff, technicians, engineering staff and others. Union chief Prosper Ben-Hamu said Friday that the Treasury was "aware of" the workers' financial difficulties but that talks with the union have proved fruitless. This sector is regarded as the lowest-paid in the country's largest health fund. Clalit management said it was in the midst of talks with the workers and that it was sorry the union chose to apply sanctions. It called on the workers to return to the negotiating table.
