Health Ministry: No risk from tainted Spanish cucumbers

Following reports of people taking sick in Spain after eating cucumbers infected with E. coli bacteria, the Health Ministry in Jerusalem said on Sunday that there has been no import recently of Spanish cucumbers.

In any case, the ministry said, samples of all fresh produce undergo microbiological tests before being allowed in.

Hands should be well washed before and after touching fresh fruits and vegetables, which should also be washed and rinsed carefully.

Raw food such as meat and eggs should be separated from fresh produce, it continued.
