Herzog: Under 35s to receive additional unemployment benefits

People under the age of 35 rendered unemployed due to the economic crisis will be able to claim additional benefits after a recommendation from Minister of Welfare and Social Services Isaac Herzog was approved Monday by the Knesset's Labor, Welfare and Health Committee. According to the new arrangements, which will cost the government some NIS 100 million to implement, unemployed up to the age of 25 will receive an additional 15 days of benefits; those between 25-28 entitled to an additional 30 days and 28-35 year-olds will gain 25 more days. This arrangement will be in place until the end of 2010, said a statement from Herzog's office. "We are talking about a recommendation that is timely and appropriate considering the large numbers of people who have been fired from their jobs in the last few months," said Herzog, adding that research has indicated those most affected by the current recession are people under the age of 35.
