Indian official questions prudence of arms deal with Israel

India's Comptroller and Auditor General called into question the prudence of a deal in which India purchased military equipment from Israel worth approximately $150 million, the Asian Age reported Monday.

According to the Indian official's claims the "recce pods," to be installed on Sukohi fighter aircraft, were not tested and evaluated according to Indian law prior to the purchase being made and money changing hands.

The contract for the equipment was signed in 2004, but most of the supplies were made between 2007 and 2009, according to the comptroller.

He added that the majority of the money for the "recce pods" had been paid, yet the equipment had still not yet proven to be functional.
