Interior Ministry OKs 1,600 new east J'lem homes

The Interior Ministry's Regional Planning and Building Committee on Tuesday approved the construction of 1,600 new housing units for young haredi families in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo.
An Interior Ministry spokeswoman stressed that the timing of the decision, made during the visit to Israel of US Vice President Joe Biden, was not intentional.
This is a long approval process, and these plans are never approved in the first hearing, she said.
The public has 60 days in which to formally file their opposition to the plan.
