Iran nuclear scientist: Israelis present at interrogations

Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri, said to have been abducted by US CIA agents in 2009 while in Saudi Arabia, claimed Thursday that Israeli intelligence agents were involved in his interrogations by the CIA, Reuters reported.

"Israeli agents were present at some of my interrogation sessions and I was threatened to be handed over to Israel if I refused to cooperate with Americans," Amiri told reporters.

US officials never acknowledged he was on American soil until Tuesday, hours after he turned up at the Iranian interests section at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington asking to be sent home.

US State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said he does not know what Amiri may have told US officials, but he did say that the US government "maintained contact with him" during his stay in the United States.

Pressed whether Amiri was a defector, Crowley replied, "I just don't know the answer."
