Iranian pleads not guilty in Nigeria arms seizure

LAGOS, Nigeria — An Iranian man charged with orchestrating an illegal arms shipment into Nigeria pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Azim Adhajani and his alleged accomplice, Nigerian national Usman Abbas Jega, both maintained their innocence during a surprise court hearing in Lagos, where security agents discovered the shipment Oct. 27.

Authorities have said an illegal shipment of military-grade arms that originated in Iran and passed through the port in Lagos was destined for Gambia.
