The Iron Dome rocket-defense system intercepted a rocket fired from Gaza toward Ashdod on Sunday afternoon, bringing the total of rockets intercepted by the system to eight on Sunday.
Six additional rockets exploded in Israel territory on Sunday. No injuries or damage were reported in the attacks.
Ashdod mayor Yehiel Lasri told Israel Radio that "Ashdod is under attack in a way it hasn't been before. The Iron Dome is doing great job, but the danger of shrapnel exists."
