The Israel Democracy Institute condemned on Thursday the petition signed by dozens of municipal rabbis saying Jews should not allow gentiles to move into their neighborhoods.

"There is no place for opinions like this, which are dripping with racism, in a democratic country," Itai Litman, the institute's spokesman said. "Isn't this a Jewish state, with the commandment to love the stranger?"

"Jews, who were the victims of the worst hate crime in history, should decry such racism," Litman added.
