A high-level US delegation headed by Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg is expected in Israel Wednesday for the first Israel-US strategic dialogue since Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu came to power last March. The dialogue, which was established in 1999 and is scheduled to take place on Thursday, is a framework for multi-agency high-level discussions on strategic issues common to both countries. Iran is expected to dominate the discussion, as it has for a number of years.

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon will head the Israeli team, which will also include officials from the Foreign Ministry, Defense Ministry and Prime Minister’s Office. Steinberg is one of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s top foreign policy advisers.
