Israel sent a condolence message to Egypt and the Coptic community Sunday on the passing of Coptic Pope Shenouda III.
According to a statement put out by the Foreign Ministry, "Pope Shenouda was an important spiritual leader who for many years was outstanding in his ministration to the faithful and in his contributions to fraternity and coexistence in Egypt."
Shenouda, who died Saturday at the age of 88, served as head of the Coptic Christian community for 38 years.
