Japan hit by 6.6 magnitude earthquake

TOKYO - An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 shook western Japan on Friday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, adding that a tsunami warning was not issued.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Tottori prefecture. The quake occurred at 2:07 p.m. local time (5:07 a.m. GMT) at a depth of 10 km (6 miles) the agency said.
