Jordanian King on Sunday congratulated Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on the "historic achievement" of the United Nations vote to upgrade the status of Palestine to a non-member observer state, the official Jordan news agency Petra reported.

Abdullah said the step is a way forward towards establishing a viable Palestinian state during a meeting with Abbas in Amman.

Abdullah also strongly condemned the approval of the construction of 3,000 new housing units i Jerusalem and the West Bank.
