Jordans king swears in

Jordan's king has sworn in a new Cabinet dominated by pro-US liberals expected to push for reforms, according to the Royal Court. The 29-member Cabinet is headed by Samir Rifai, 43. A close confidant of King Abdullah II, Rifai backs Jordan's 1994 peace treaty with Israel and warm relations with the United States. A royal palace statement said the Cabinet was sworn in Monday in a brief ceremony. The previous Cabinet resigned last week amid public criticism of its inability to press ahead with political and economic reforms. The new Cabinet includes two women. The economic team comprises top bankers and businessmen.
