The Israel Bar Association on Wednesday threatened to press its entire membership to strike in the near future from showing up for all court hearings to show solidarity with the country’s judges, many of whom feel they are enduring problematic financial conditions.

Even as judges themselves have never formally gone on strike, if most or all lawyers stopped attending court hearings, the entire legal system could potentially become paralyzed. The overriding issue the lawyers and judges claim is that judges who ascended to the bench in recent years have had poorer pension conditions than both veteran judges and many other important public service roles thought of as equal or as less demanding.

In addition, judges’ assistants have been on intermittent strikes for better financial conditions.
