Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz announced on Thursday that he would allow El Al to fly three flights a day to from Ben Gurion airport to Eilat.
Katz said his decision would release Israir from its committed schedule and allow it to decide its schedule for itself.
Katz’s decision is temporary for six months, after which the ministry will examine El Al’s affect on the market and set a permanent arrangement.
Katz said that El Al’s entrance to the market may lower flight tickets and help realize the line’s potential and increase tourism to the city.
