The Knesset Interior Committee on Tuesday began presenting its legislation on affordable housing.
Committee chairman Amnon Cohen (Shas) said that "the housing crisis is the result of a market failure, and the government must intervene to fix what the market can't fix on its own."
Cohen stated that, according to the committee's proposed legislation, all local housing plans must contain some affordable homes in order to receive government approval. He added that the proposed legislation will call for varied prices and populations within neighborhoods in order to prevent the creation of slums.
