Knesset approves revised Deposit Law for bottles

The Knesset approved the revised Deposit Law on Tuesday evening initiated by the Environmental Protection Ministry. Under the new law, large bottles will also be included, 12,000 more recycling receptacles will be placed around the country, stores will accept 50 bottles per person at a time to receive NIS 0.30 as opposed to NIS 0.25. In addition, manufacturers will take full responsibility for recycling small and big bottles.
The goal for collecting small bottles will be adjusted from 85% today eventually reaching 77% within a few years. Sixty nine percent of small bottles are collected today. At the same time, the ability to retroactively achieve approval of however many bottles the recycling corporation collects in a given year will be abolished. The target to be reached within five years for large bottles will be to collect 50% of them.
